The origin of wedding rings

The origin of wedding rings

Wedding rings have always been exchanged as a symbol of love and compromise. Back in the ancient times it was believed that there was a ‘vein of love’ on the fourth finger that ran directly to the heart and that is why wedding rings are traditionally worn on this finger since then.

The circle or a wedding ring used to be seen as a powerful representation of a love promise that would endure forever as the endless circle. Initially the rings were made out of leather, bone or ivory, then they started to make it out of iron as metal bands started to be worn and popular. The use of gold and silver to make rings came a little later, but only very wealthy people could afford it.

Today wedding rings still stand for love as they continue to symbolise commitment to each other and although couples still tend to wear them on the fourth finger of their left-hand, there are no rules when it comes to wedding rings! There is a lot of freedom on how to wear or to customise them. Some like a plane band in one color, some like to play with the metals and combine their colors all together, some like it with diamonds or even colourful gemstones that mean something to them; the only important rule is that it should suit you and that is why Förevigt by Fernanda carefully listens to the customer's desired ideas and wishes. We want you to be overwhelmed with the result of your so special wedding ring.
